In Bloom: Beta 5 x Page and Paper

Vancouver food lovers are no stranger to Beta 5. They opened sometime in 2011, but I personally discovered them 'round the 2012 holiday season, stumbling upon their Instagram account accidentally whilst browsing my feed one evening. I was living in Mount Pleasant at the time, and on my first walk/trip over to their now infamous Industrial Street location, I remember feeling like I was heading in the wrong direction somehow, being surrounded by mostly nondescript, industrial buildings. Soon enough, I found Beta 5 just where it has and always has been advertised to be: "tucked away, like a secret."

A few days ago, Alison and I had the pleasure of previewing (and eating!) the Spring chocolate, eclair, ice cream, and cream puff seasonal collection over at Beta 5 Chocolates. Here are a few shots that we managed to take amongst a flurry of camera and iPhone activity from many noted local food bloggers and dessert lovers in the city...

Alison and I took home a box full of goodies and we shot the cream puffs we were generously given at the event once we got them safely into our homes...

Below is Alison's beautiful photographic rendition, taken in her garden, for that true springtime feel.

The ones below are mine, taken under the moody light of my little apartment. I opted to match the cream puffs that managed to get home safely with some of the ceramics I own and use as part of our collective prop kit.

You will see that I tried to depict the puffs in a more playful manner here, using Grace Lee's mini planters...

...but the weight of the filling from my little Strawberry-Rhubarb cream puff made the puff sink straight into my little planter!
I called it a day then, and proceeded to eat the remains from their little ceramic tops.

A BIG, HUGE THANK YOU goes out to Adam Chandler and Jessica Rosinski for graciously extending this invite out to me and Alison! It was such a pleasure meeting the both of you. I hope we get to chat more next time! The new offerings will be a hit - we are sure of it!
